Where Buldak Comes From

The spiciness of buldak, a Korean dish, is making it increasingly popular globally. In Korean, bul means fire and dak mentions to chicken in English. Buldak is a type of grilled chicken that is spicy and tasty. It is considered the outdated dishes by Koreans and has become part of their ethos over the years.

Fire chicken was not known before 2000s. An assortment of bite-sized pieces of chicken bathed in a sauce that contain gochugaru chili powder, gochujang hot pepper paste, soy sauce, jocheong rice sauce, garlic and ginger are used to make them. Gochujang or gochugaru are the two details behind this term “fire chicken” since these fixings cause dangerous heat.
